It’s been a bad day…

Again I went to the Düsseldorf International Airport to take some photos.

This time I went there with a plan in my pocket. I wanted to take pictures of some special planes. I had the times, I knew, when which type of plane was going to arrive or depart. All these plans and times were quite correct, all the planes I wanted to see and shoot were there. And I took photo’s of all these planes.Happily I went back to my car, back home and straight to the computer.

As I plugged in the card reader something scary showed up infront of my inner eye:

ISO Level

Didn’t I… I wanted to put it back from 1600 to 200… I just thought about it just before I left… did I?

Off to bed now… Damnit!

First pictures taken with the new lens.

Here are the first pictures I took using my new Sigma-lens:

Today I got my new lens:
Sigma 70-300mm APO
Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO

As far as I could test it for now I’m quite happy with it – I just have to re-learn holding the camera steady.

Bunker world

On my trip to Thuringia (see here) I also went into a former bunker of the Ministry for State Security of the former GDR, better known as “Stasi”. This bunker has been bought and transformed into a museum by enthusiasts. According to the museum guide, up to 16 of these bunkers existed in the former GDR – only for the Stasi officials.

Sadly, I only managed to get one usable picture out of this bunker. It shows one of the museum employees (wearing an old GDR-Uniform) working in the communications section of the bunker.

Decay

Recently I’ve been on a trip to Thuringia. It’s a fascinating thing to see that the decay that started with the establishment of the former GDR has not been stopped until today. First, I wanted to post some photos of houses without windows, without roofs etc. but that’s too common. I decided to put up a photo of a simple municipality sign which must be at least 15 to 25 years old and documents this decay very well.

Waterfall

For a good amount of time I was looking for a waterfall to photograph with a exposure time of 1/30s or longer. Finally, in the japanese garden in Hasselt, Belgium I found one which was dark enough to take the picture and bright enough to grant a exposure time which is fast enough to shoot without tripod.

What do you think?

My girlfriend wearing a straw hat

This time we were at the japanese garden in Hasselt, Belgium. If you like japanese gardens and want to visit the largest one in europe you’d better plan your visit not to take place on saturdays or sundays. There were only few pictures without tourists possible.

Anyway, how’d you like her new hat?

Seagull

Another trip to the Netherlands led to the Oosterscheldekering (Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier), a storm surge barrier of the Deltawerken (Delta works). While visiting the barrier museum I found this seagull. While the seagull was patiently waiting for me finishing my pictures a family with small children were on their way towards us. Luckily the father discerned the situation and held back the children till I was finished taking photos.

Trip to Munich – Unusual encounter

Okay fellas, you are in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is May, the temperature is merely over 20°C.

What do you expect least?

What about this guy?

My girlfriend sitting on a trunk

In may ‘06 we were visiting the zoo in Duisburg. We both thought that the place under the sakura, the cherry blossoms is a perfect spot for a nice picture.

Well done, we think… :-)
